Today In History – April 5th

The sea breeze brought them in
Him upon the bow.
The Mayflower came for yellow gold
And red Indians.
There was a language, though,
A lay of the land,
A birdsong and creatures in the woods.
He did not understand.
There were old gods,
And customs.
One of us had to learn
A new language,
A new land, and those in it,
And new gods,
And new customs.

Unrealised plans reveal weaknesses of will.
